Newly created Team Leadership role. Stretch your leadership & strategic capability. Auckland based, reporting to the Commercial Underwriting Lead - International. We are looking for a passionate Team Leader – Commercial Liability to drive profitable growth and exceptional service delivery.

Your new role

As Team Leader - Commercial Liability, you will play a pivotal role in underwriting new business and renewals across the Financial Lines and Casualty portfolios, making critical underwriting decisions, and managing a team dedicated to delivering excellence.

This role requires a strong leader who can balance strategic oversight with hands-on management and who is committed to fostering growth, development, and high performance in their team.

You will be responsible for upholding underwriting standards, nurturing relationships with key intermediaries and business partners, and contributing to our long-term business goals.

Key Responsibilities: Underwriting Leadership: Underwrite and authorise risk within guidelines and delegated authority to support profitable growth. Act as a technical expert and decision-maker for escalated referrals. People Management: Lead, motivate, and develop a team of underwriters. Foster a positive team culture through setting behavioural expectations, promoting engagement, and championing continuous development. Relationship Building: Develop and strengthen relationships with customers, intermediaries, and business partners to support service delivery and innovation. Team Development: Maintain team expertise by identifying and promoting relevant learning and development opportunities, ensuring technical and market knowledge remains current. Business Strategy: Contribute to business planning and portfolio analysis to meet and exceed business objectives. Operational Excellence: Manage team resources efficiently to deliver within SLAs, and ensure alignment with underwriting guidelines and standards. About you

To excel in this role, you will be an experienced underwriter in commercial liability (financial lines and casualty). You will have strong technical skills and a keen eye for identifying profitable growth opportunities.

Skills & Experience: Significant experience in commercial liability (financial lines and casualty) underwriting, with knowledge of risk assessment and profitable growth strategies. People management skills with a focus on team motivation, engagement, and development. Strong relationship-building abilities with key intermediaries and stakeholders. Excellent decision-making and problem-solving skills, with a focus on timely and effective solutions.
