John Paul II High School – Greymouth, South Island
John Paul II High School is an outstanding school that puts students at the heart of all we do. We are seeking an inclusive, patient, mature, and skilled teacher aide/learning assistant to join our supportive and experienced team. The role is permanent and part-time, with expertise and interest in promoting an inclusive approach to realizing the educational goals of our diverse learners from Years 9-13.
The Teacher Aide/Learning Assistant will: Work with a number of neurodiverse students across the timetable under teacher supervision but sometimes independently.
Build trusting relationships with students.
Assist students to stay on task and build self-management strategies and increased independence.
Record information about students and their work as required by their teachers or the Learning Support Coordinator.
Contribute to the Learning Support team through clear communication and building positive relationships with colleagues.
Contribute to the development of meaningful Individual Education/Pathways Plans for students as required.
Preserve confidentiality for staff, students, and their whanau/families.
Attend weekly meetings, and professional learning and development courses as required.
Qualifications and Experience The successful candidates will be someone who enjoys working with teenagers, is approachable, engaging, warm, empathetic, enthusiastic, motivated, culturally responsive, celebrates diversity, and uses their initiative.
Qualifications, training, and/or experience in working with students with special educational needs is preferred. Teacher Aide/Learning Assistant experience is not necessary but preferred. A high level of literacy and numeracy is a requirement of the role.
The successful applicant will observe our special character and our staff code of conduct.
They will be required to undergo police vetting and cannot be appointed until a successful result has been received. Applicants must be eligible to work in New Zealand and reside here.
Hours and Remuneration The hours will be by negotiation, up to 25 hours per week. Please note this position is term time only.
Remuneration is based on the Support Staff (Teacher Aide) in Schools Collective Agreement.
