Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity
Our Maori Student Support Centre is excited to announce the newly created leadership role of Te Poutaki Maori | Maori Centre Manager. Te Poutaki Maori manages and leads the Maori Student Support Centre with strategic and operational engagement to increase tauira Maori participation and success at Waipapa Taumata Rau.
This position requires a high level of professionalism and confidentiality in relation to student privacy. It is a front-line position responding to a wide range of inquiries through a variety of channels. Comprehensive knowledge of University products, services and processes is required to ensure first-class service delivery.

Some key responsibilities include:
Strategy and Planning - Create and deliver a Maori Student Support Centre engagement strategy that enhances the wellbeing, participation and success of tauira Maori
Leadership - Champion the leadership of Maori Student Support Centre giving effect to the UoA pastoral care code of practice and the Marae Model of wellbeing.
Operational Activities – Delivery and promotion of a professional, seamless, and comprehensive advisory service.
Stakeholder Relationships - Ensure relationships are established and maintained with stakeholders including staff, students, external partners and organisations.
Tauira Maori Support - Delivery of high quality service of pastoral care and advisory support for tauira Maori.
It is important to us that you have a sound understanding of Maori cultural preferences and practices.
This is a full time (37.5 hours/ week), permanent position.

He korero mou | About you
To succeed in this varied role, it is essential that you are experienced in working with Maori students and or youth. You will have sound knowledge of Te Ao Maori principles in practice.
Charismatic and energetic in nature, you will use these strengths to forge and build relationships with a variety of people including students, staff, whanau and beyond. Not afraid to be the face of the centre, you will be on-site, approachable and confident to make decisions and work independently in sometimes challenging and serious situations.
As a manager you will have sound leadership abilities and be able to mentor and support your team members.
Above all, you will be passionate about seeing Maori students succeed in their tertiary studies.

Important Skills | Nga Pukenga Motuhake
You will have:
Experience in working with rangatahi Maori, ideally 5+ years
Experience leading and developing teams, ideally 3+ years
A working knowledge of the NZ tertiary education environment and/or the secondary school sector
Superior written and verbal skills – able to present to a range of environments and communicate persuasively and effectively to a range of people
Ability to listen to client needs and clearly communicate advice
Strong reporting and data analysis.
