Our fast-paced Crisis Respite service, located in Domain Terrace, provides short term bed-based support for people experiencing mental distress and crisis. We provide a homely and supportive environment, so that when leave, they feel able to face the world again.We are looking for a new team member who has a caring and empathetic nature and a passion for making a difference in the lives of our tangata.
The shift pattern will be Thursday to Saturday, alternating PMs and AMs.
Week 1: Thursday - Saturday PM (17:30 - 23:00)Week 2: Thursday - Saturday AM (07:00 - 12:30)Mo Te Tunga | About The role This role would suit someone who have lived experience of their own mental or emotional distress, has a passion for actively participating in the recovery journey of our tangata, and has experience working in the mental health sector.
You will be required to:
Work alongside tangata and other staff to manage the high turnover of referrals, the intake and exit of Crisis Respite guests while maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment for people to stay.Support tangata in working towards the goals recommended by the referrers.Support tangata in connecting with external agencies for ongoing support after leaving respite.Engage with tangata to assess and assist with their wellbeing and be an advocate and emotional support where necessary.Assist/complete individual documentation, and necessary external reporting.Administer medications in collaboration with other staff.Support the daily living processes and relationships within residential environments.Work together within the team to maintain and achieve the required cooking and cleaning tasks which create a homely environment.Implement residential routines.We would like you to have the ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with tangata and colleagues. You will be a skilled Support Worker who can support tangata in a culturally safe way.

You have a compassionate and caring nature with good communication skills and a strong work ethic.A New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Level 4) or a relevant qualification with recognized mental health equivalency.Recognised Peer Support training (e.g., Intentional Peer Support)A willingness to commit to and support the bicultural journey that Stepping Stone Trust is on as we live out our partnership under Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles.Focus on the recovery of our tangata by ensuring that their needs are met.The skills to engage and motivate people in a wide range of situations to achieve quality outcomes.A certain degree of computer literacy.The ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with colleagues and tangata.Assist with meal preparation and housework.A friendly work environment where you, together with support staff, can make a difference in people's lives.
