We do this by:protecting conservation land and waters, species, ecosystems, and cultural heritage for conservation purposesmanaging threats and adverse impactsbeing a voice for conservationconnecting people to nature.The position will be focussed on:You will lead, coach, and inspire your team of direct reports by planning, assigning, monitoring, and reviewing work with your team while fostering a great working culture. You'll work closely with your team to deliver agreed work programmes and guide them through training, supervision and administrative tasks.Your key focus will be supporting the Biodiversity team, but you'll also work with other Supervisors and assist across all programmes of work including Heritage and Visitor, and the Visitor Centre.Assist in the day to day running of the DOC Stewart/ Rakiura office, supporting logistics and compliance related work.Work with community groups, volunteers, and iwi.This is predominantly an office-based role focusing on staff leadership and management, and supporting your team to be technical experts in the field. At times, there will be opportunities to join your team in the field so that you can understand and review their work.Some of the major programmes of work that you'll get to be part of include:Saving the Southern New Zealand dotterel & hoiho (yellow-eyed penguin)Dune restoration programmes including the most significant in the Southern Hemisphere – Mason BayPest-free Ulva Island/Te WharawharaPredator Free RakiuraThis is a unique opportunity to have a change of scenery and join us on Rakiura/Stewart Island. If you have the following experience and attributes, we are keen to hear from you:Leadership of field teams, with experience in supervising, coaching, mentoring, and managing performanceDemonstrated capability to plan, monitor and report on work deliveryExcellent verbal and written communication skills (this role involves administrative work)Comfortable working and living on a remote island (and everything that comes with that!) including; tight-knit community, fresh air, unique lifestyle, amazing environment on your doorstepA team player with a 'can-do' attitude – practically minded, you are happy to jump in and help out when needed.Commitment to excellence – sets high personal and professional standards, assumes responsibility and accountability for the success of the teamA strong commitment to safety and to mental wellbeing in the workplaceTechnologically savvy and able to keep up with the changes in the digital spaceAn eye for detail, a willingness to work towards continuous improvement, and plenty of drive and initiative.Our team is passionate about the work they do and has a culture of inclusiveness and support. You will share those values and passion for conservation.Previous experience in biodiversity or environmental managementPrevious experience engaging and working in partnership with iwi and tangata whenua, as well as an understanding of the implications of te Tiriti o Waitangi on today's society and conservationDOC accommodation is available.
