Waikato Equitherapy Incorporated provides horse riding and horse interaction to children and adults with special needs in Hamilton and the surrounding Waikato area. It has a dedicated volunteer team, committed staff, and an excellent team of therapy horses. Our special needs riders benefit physically, emotionally, and socially from their time at the Centre.
We all enjoy seeing the weekly progress our riders make, and the confidence and pleasure they gain from their time at the Centre. Waikato Equitherapy also benefits the volunteers, those on work experience, and the children who attend the holiday programs. The Centre is a place where people feel they can belong, get support, and experience a sense of community.
This role requires you to walk to paddocks to collect and turn out the horses, then groom our horses to a fantastic standard, getting them ready for the lessons with their riders. Although experience with handling horses is not expected, it would be beneficial. If you are not experienced, then full onsite training will be provided.
Requirements:
You need to be physically able to groom our horses to a fantastic standard.
Reliable, trustworthy, and have good communication skills.
Patient and friendly.
Comfortable being around horses.
Must be COVID-19 vaccinated.
A Police background check is required for this role.
Time commitment:
Any time that you are able to give us is greatly appreciated. During school term time, the centre is open Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. We would need help from when the centre opens to collect the horses in from the paddocks and get them ready for the rides, approximately 2 hours.
The centre is open during term time at the following times:
Wednesday 8.30am to 3-4pm
Thursday 8.30am to 3-4pm
Friday 11am to 4.30pm
Saturday 8.30am to 3-4pm
