A rewarding opportunity has arisen for a fixed-term (parental leave cover), full-time Student Support Advisor at our EIT | Te Pukenga business division located in Gisborne. This role will develop and foster a holistic and multi-disciplinary approach to support student disability and wellbeing needs. This role also holds the Pasifika portfolio and includes a specific focus on supporting Pasifika students on campus. The Student Support Advisor role is based at EIT | Te Pukenga reporting to the Team Leader, Student Support Services and will be responsible for:
Providing support to students to enhance opportunities for success in tertiary study
Contributing to the development and implementation of a strategy for Maori and Pacific student support
Building networks within EIT | Te Pukenga and the wider community that contribute to students' learning experience and success, specifically within the Pasifika community
Developing and contributing to pastoral care networks for students and referring students to these networks as appropriate
Developing and/or strengthening reciprocal and transparent relationships between students and their communities and other stakeholders
To be successful in this role you will have:
A relevant tertiary qualification (desirable)
Ability and experience in providing support to students in the tertiary education environment
Strong networks within the Pasifika community
Experience in working with Maori and Pacific peoples
Ability to assess Maori and Pacific student learning support needs sensitively
An understanding and appreciation of cultural matters and commitment to the development of a culturally sensitive working environment
