Speech Language Therapist, Child, Adolescent and Family Mental Health Service Working within service hours 0830 – 1700
Permanent full-time 1FTE
Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is firmly grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is dedicated to serving all New Zealanders. Through integration and collaboration, we're building a health system underpinned by partnership, equity, sustainability, whanau-centred care, and excellence.
About the Role
Are you interested in using your specialist skills to make a meaningful difference for young people with mental health challenges? We need you in the Child, Adolescent & Family Mental Health Service (CAFS). This is a sole position across the Service, working full-time (80 hours per fortnight) Monday to Friday.
CAFS has several outpatient teams that provide assessment and treatment of young people up to 18 years of age. These young people have moderate to severe mental health problems, and their family involvement is important too. You'll be a key clinician working as part of the multidisciplinary team, providing speech language assessments and interventions for our clients. Some travel may be required for Outreach clinics – we cover Kaikoura to Ashburton.
If you are a Registered Speech-Language Therapist with a real interest in mental health, we are interested in you! We can provide training opportunities for working within a mental health setting, and staff can apply for relevant postgraduate courses.
This is a demanding and challenging role working alongside supportive teams to meet the complex and changing needs of our clients. You will develop and regularly review your job plan and workload with the Clinical Manager.
Please include a cover letter.
About the Team/Service/Location
The clinicians on the Teams have a range of skills and areas of clinical expertise - we'll provide you with a great opportunity to enhance your skills in a specialty area. Likewise, you will contribute to the education of staff from your professional background.
About you
The ability to effectively communicate and work collaboratively with young people, family/whanau, and community organisations is essential. You'll need great organisation and excellent time management to keep up with this exciting client group with flexibility in your approach and a passion for working with young people and seeing them succeed. Bring your professional knowledge and abilities to our teams.
Competency with te ao Maori, tikanga, and te reo Maori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth.
Experience in projects/initiatives which give effect to Te Tiriti principles and frameworks, and the application of Matauranga Maori and Kaupapa Maori approaches, particularly as they apply in healthcare settings.
