About the Role
We have an exciting opportunity in our Liability claims team. As a Specialist, Liability Claims handler, you'll be managing general liability claims for both our intermediated and direct brands, ensuring customer-focused experiences through your technical expertise and excellent soft skills.
Key Responsibilities include (but not limited to):

Registration and first actioning of notifications lodged by intermediaries or direct customers onto our insurance systems for case management. Prompt acknowledgment of claim registration to broker or insured.
Analysis and/or investigation of background facts in connection with submitted losses to resolve availability and extent of cover under policy wordings. Drafting of declinature correspondence.
Analysis of the Insured's legal liability to actual and/or anticipated third parties. Identification of tenable defences available in tort, contract and statute to mitigate losses and/or recover against other parties. Attending Dispute Tribunal hearings to contest liability and/or quantum where tolerable settlements are unattainable.
Engage external suppliers (loss adjusters, lawyers) domestically and internationally to investigate, report and adjust losses occurring in any jurisdiction.
Devise a strategy for resolving covered claims to achieve commercially pragmatic outcomes that carefully balance cost containment against reasonable customer expectations.
Drafting and issuing Large Loss Reports to bring visibility to large losses (actual and potential) to underwriting and sales teams throughout the claim. Drafting alerts and updating large loss narratives to bring visibility to large claims.
Raise and maintain reserves on the insurance system that represent the best estimate of IAG's financial exposure for indemnity losses and external supplier fees pursuant to IAG's reserving methodology.

This is a hybrid role, with the candidate expected to work from the local IAG office for up to two days per week. The start date is flexible for the right candidate.
Office locations: Auckland, Wellington, Hamilton, and Christchurch.

About You:

2 years' experience handling general liability claims.
Good knowledge of legal liability principles.
Strong decision-making skills.
Sound analytical and reporting skills.
Sound written and oral communication skills.
Ability to closely work with external stakeholders.
ANZIIF General Certificate or similar qualification desirable.
