Onemata was formed out of the passion and enthusiasm that our team have for New Zealand, its plentiful fresh produce, premium farm meats, and supreme seafood. Opened in September 2020, it has quickly become one of Auckland's popular restaurants.
About the role:
We are seeking an exceptional Sous Chef to join our team at the award-winning Onemata restaurant at Park Hyatt Auckland. As Sous Chef, you will play a vital role in supporting the Head Chef in delivering an exceptional dining experience to our guests. This is a full-time position based in the heart of Auckland CBD.
What you'll be doing: Assist the Head Chef in the overall management of the kitchen operation, including menu planning, food preparation, and quality control. Oversee the day-to-day kitchen activities, ensuring efficient workflow and adherence to food safety and hygiene standards. Train, mentor, and supervise the kitchen team, fostering a positive and collaborative work environment. Actively participate in the creation and development of new and innovative menu items. Collaborate with the Head Chef to control food and labour costs while maintaining high-quality standards. Assist in the ordering and management of kitchen supplies and inventory. Ensure the kitchen operates in compliance with all relevant health and safety regulations. What we're looking for: Minimum of 2 years' experience as a Sous Chef or equivalent role in a reputable restaurant or hotel. Proven track record of leading and developing a kitchen team. Strong working knowledge of food preparation techniques, menu planning, and cost control. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Passion for creating innovative and high-quality cuisine. Strong problem-solving and time management skills. Proficiency in using kitchen equipment and technology. Applicants should have legal working rights in New Zealand.
