We value Safety, One Airways, Excellence and Success in all that we do.About the Team:The Technology business unit is responsible for the effective delivery, management and services of all technology disciplines within the air navigation services environment – engineering design, software design and development, technology architecture and infrastructure, asset management, installation and maintenance, technical training, workload planning, maintenance program development, project management, and logistics support.About the Role:Newly created full-time permanent role available as Solution Architect for unmanned flight operations that will be based at our Christchurch campus in Burnside.Reporting into the Manager Air Traffic Services Development, you will work to ensure our technology outcomes and future roadmaps for the integration of unmanned flight operations are aligned with evolving business goals, strategies, governance, policies, and standards.This will include guiding the implementation of systems with particular focus on delivery of UAM and FIMS systems, and integration of airspace users working to new digital flight rules into the mission critical ATM environment.The role will also be responsible for acting as a liaison with industry experts, other ANSPs and regulators, to determine and meet the needs of this growing class of airspace users and facilitate an ecosystem which prioritises safety, resilience, and quality.Key focus areas:Provide people, technical and thought leadership. There will be varying levels of dotted-line reporting initially which may expand.Solution architecture and design which encompasses leading the development of a future state and roadmap for unmanned operations.Planning and project management, acting as a champion and Subject Matter Expert (SME) for UAV related systems, adhering to appropriate governance, procedures, and policy requirements.Commercial and supplier management, fostering relationships with strategic partners such as NZ CAA in relation to UAV operations.Position our work so that an evolving charging model can be developed to provide a return on the investment in these new services.About You:To be successful in the role, you will have:Minimum of 10 years' experience in software systems design and software development relating to unmanned aerial vehicles.Significant experience with the operation and support of real-time UAV applications.Experience with drone detection and drone communication protocols, 3D mapping technologies and obstacle avoidance algorithms.Proven expertise with integration of complex UAV/Drone systems in real-time mission critical environments.A successful history of delivering innovative solutions relating to unmanned operations and the management of unmanned flights.Knowledge of future UAV/UAM technology directions and how they can lead to commercial/tangible outcomes for Airways.A tertiary degree in the Technology field or equivalent.Natural talent needed to lead, empower, mentor, motivate and work well with others.Ability to work in a dynamic business environment, influence and collaborate with people internally and externally, show resilience and agility, take ownership and focus on delivering successful business outcomes.To Apply:If you are passionate about aviation, ready to make this role your own and to assist Airways in building the aviation environment of the future, submit your application (CV and cover letter) via the Airways careers site or Seek.Please note that you must be legally eligible to work in New Zealand to be considered.This role will require the successful candidate to undergo pre-employment background checks including references, drug and alcohol screening, criminal conviction, and related checks.Application closing date is Tuesday, 17 December 2024.At Airways, our people are at the heart of what we do to keep NZ skies safe.
