Solicitor at Ministry of Transport, Wellington - Wairarapa Team and Group: Legal Position Type: Permanent, Full Time (38 hours per week) or Part Time (4 days a week) Location: Wellington CBD office (Queens Wharf) Salary: $69,507 – $102,931 per annum About the Ministry of Transport | He kupu mo matou Te Manatu Waka The Ministry of Transport is the principal transport adviser to the government and provides policy advice and support to Ministers to improve the performance of New Zealand's transport system and related Crown entities such as the Civil Aviation Authority, Maritime New Zealand, and Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency.
The Ministry also manages the government's investment into transport, develops legislation and represents New Zealand's international interest in maritime and aviation affairs.

As a solicitor in our Legal team, you will provide legal advice to the Ministry and Ministers and be part of a collaborative team that actively supports each other and encourages a culture of learning through tuakana-teina relationships.
We're open to graduates who are motivated and ready to start their career or solicitors who are motivated to continue to develop their career.
Based on the work or support that may be required, this position is Wellington based only.
What you'll bring | Te wahi ki a koe A law degree and the ability to hold a practising certificate Knowledge of basic public law, commercial contracting and statutory interpretation concepts An awareness of key legislation that applies to the public service, including the Official Information Act 1982 and the Privacy Act 2020 Interest in the development of primary and secondary legislation in New Zealand Interest in the machinery of government, including Cabinet decision making processes Interest and experience in the transport sector or transport regulatory system is desirable Previous experience working in an in-house legal or a public service department, Crown Entity or related agency is also desirable.
The budgeted base salary for this position is $69,507 – $102,931 per annum (+ KiwiSaver).
The salary offered will be based on your skills and experience.
