Support individuals and families in urgent need of housingPlay a pivotal role in supporting the service whilst making a differenceMo te turanga - About the role The role of the qualified and registered Housing Social Worker position is to deliver a professional, empathetic, and effective service to people and families needing long-term sustainable accommodation and advance the mission of The Salvation Army.
The successful candidate will practice social work frameworks, professional practice, and reporting and should show acceptance, inclusion, and genuine interest in people and validate their story and aspirations. Be able to listen, relate, and affirm people in such a way that they are encouraged to examine their issues and create solutions that lead to sustained independence (passing knowledge and power to a person so they can regain independence). You will be responsible for managing cases and the referral of clients to internal and external services, in line with their goals, to deliver positive outcomes, ensure the set outcomes are being achieved and reporting aligns with practice, promptly record client interactions and case notes, and connect people to Salvation Army services (such as Community Ministries and Corps) that enhance their current circumstances and that meet individual needs.
With skills, planning, and purposeful action, you will support people to find a home and neighbourhood in which they will build the future of Aotearoa. Minimum Requirements: Proven relevant Social Work experience of at least 2 yearsHolds a recognised Social Work Degree Qualification or equivalentFully registered with the Social Work Registration BoardBe legally entitled to work in New ZealandStrong relationship buildingPrevious or current experience in transitional housing would be advantageousAbility to understand and relate to people from diverse backgrounds and who are experiencing hardship, trauma, and/or mental unwellnessRole modelling commitment to engage and journey with people, providing support for personal responsibility and motivation to achieve own goalsMaintains a high level of professional practice recognising the dignity and individuality of clientsComputer literate including Teams, Outlook, and Office 365Able to relate to people with sensitivity, care, and patienceHighly developed written and oral communication skillsA strong understanding of, and a heart for, social justice issuesAbility to work to targets and deadlinesAbility to work proactively, problem solve and meet multiple demandsStrong cultural competency, with the ability to work from a bicultural perspectiveOur offer to you: 2 x Salvation Army additional leave days and long service leaveDiscounted Medical Insurance with Southern CrossTSA discount card for discount with various retailers such as Beaurepairs, Noel Leeming, Placemakers, and Torpedo7Free confidential counselling services to support your wellbeingSubsidised flu vaccinationsFree car parkingThis is a permanent full-time role of 40 hours per week. The starting salary for this role is likely to fall between $68k and $102k.
