Contract: Permanent, Full-time

Salary: $82,856 - $107,600 in accordance with experience

Korero mo te turanga – About the role

The Specialist Maternal Mental Health service based in Wellington has a vacancy for an experienced mental health clinician; Social Worker or Occupational Therapist to join our team working in the area of perinatal mental health. Our regional team works across Wellington, Hutt and Porirua/Kapiti and offers support to pregnant and postnatal clients experiencing significant mental health challenges.

This is an opportunity to develop specialty knowledge and to work therapeutically with this client group, their baby and whanau at a motivating time in their lives which is potentially life changing. Our team is passionate about this client group and our work, with vacancies not arising in our team very often.

Mo to matou ropu – About our team

Our team provides services for clients who develop moderate to severe mental health issues during their pregnancy, and/or in the postnatal period up to 12 months after delivery at the point of referral.

Clients experiencing a moderate to severe mood, anxiety or psychotic disorder, living in the greater Wellington region, are seen for assessment, treatment and intervention. The team works alongside other health care providers and offers consultation/liaison to health professionals involved in the care of this client group. SMMH also has a regional coordination role with the lower North Island Regional perinatal mental health network, providing a part-time consultation/liaison role in the Wairarapa.

Mou – About you

The ideal applicant will have a mental health background, experience working in community and some understanding of issues related to the perinatal period including mother - infant relationship, attachment issues and have the ability to work therapeutically with clients and their whanau.

Be able to identify common acute mental health presentations including mood and anxiety disorders, trauma, adjustment and related issues.

Have the ability to complete comprehensive mental health assessments within the context of the perinatal period and to make effective decisions that support clients' wellbeing.

Have the ability to work collaboratively with clients developing therapeutic relationships, working with them and their whanau to manage their mental health disorders.

Work alongside other health care teams and services in the community and hospital in order to support continuity of care for women. Offer direct care, co-work and consultation / liaison.

Ability to work independently, alongside a multi – disciplinary team.

The successful applicant is required to hold a driver's license as our work is mobile and includes home visiting.

The applicant needs to be a member of a registered professional body with NZ recognised health credentials.
