New World – Timaru, South Island Full time, Permanent We are looking for a passionate and organised Service Delicatessen Manager to lead our very capable and experienced deli team. The ideal candidate is passionate about fresh, high-quality food, has strong leadership skills, and is committed to delivering excellent customer service. New World Timaru is more than just a supermarket. As a locally-owned, family-run business, we're a hub for the community, with a strong focus on supporting both our team and customers. Working 40 hours a week, the exact days and hours are negotiable for the successful candidate, however, will include one weekend day and may include early mornings. You'll have set days & hours to provide stability and reliability to your week. As a manager of a fresh foods department, you will ensure that food preparation, presentation, and customer service consistently meet our high standards. You'll be responsible for managing inventory, training staff, maintaining food safety standards, and driving sales growth. This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment with a focus on fresh, quality foods. We'll provide training in the details but you must; Have the ability to lead and inspire a team, ensuring a positive and productive work environment. Be a problem-solver who can adapt quickly to changing situations and customer needs. Be comfortable handling inventory and ensuring products are fresh and fully stocked. Have an understanding of food safety standards and the importance of following regulations. Your day-to-day will involve the following; Manage and oversee daily operations of the service deli, ensuring efficient workflow. Supervise, train, and motivate deli staff to provide excellent customer service. Ensure compliance with our strict food control plan and health and safety regulations. Monitor product quality, freshness, and presentation to maintain high standards. Plan and manage inventory, place orders, and minimise waste. Develop and implement sales strategies to meet and exceed departmental goals. Address customer inquiries and resolve issues promptly and professionally. Our ideal candidate may have these key skills; Previous experience in a deli, fresh foods, or related environment is preferred. Strong leadership and team management skills. Excellent communication and customer service skills. Knowledge of food safety regulations and best practices. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail. Comfortable using a computer, tablet, hand held devices & SAP (full training provided).
