This is a Wellington based role.Korero mo te turanga | About the roleLegal work for Manatu Taonga is hugely varied and interesting, and includes public and administrative law, privacy and official information, contract and commercial law, policy development and law reform, intellectual property law, competition law, resource management law, litigation, and Te Tiriti o Waitangi/Treaty of Waitangi related issues. As well as strong internal relationships we work closely with our Crown entities and other funded agencies.This is an opportunity to be part of our small and friendly Te Pae Tauhu – Legal & Compliance team, with a particular focus on supporting the development and implementation of government policy and legislation relevant to the arts, culture and heritage sectors. This opportunity includes supporting the legislative processes relating to media policy reforms.Korero mou | About youYou will have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a small and agile team. Your creativity, sound judgment and analytical skills will pave the way for you in this role. Excellent communication skills, initiative and the ability to work to deadlines are essential. You need to have the confidence to lead legal support to internal clients on a daily basis.You must hold, or be eligible to hold, a current legal practising certificate. At least five years + post admission experience as a lawyer is preferred. However, less PQE will be considered.Experience in providing legal advice on Te Tiriti o Waitangi/Treaty of Waitangi and working with iwi, public law, and/or in drafting and reviewing contracts would be particularly useful for this role.
