We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Senior Solicitor to join our newly established team.
Korero mo te turanga - About the role Legal work for Manatu Taonga is hugely varied and interesting, and includes: Public and administrative law Privacy and official information Contract and commercial law Policy development and law reform Intellectual property law Competition law Resource management law Litigation Te Tiriti o Waitangi / Treaty of Waitangi related issues As well as strong internal relationships, we work closely with our Crown entities and other funded agencies.
This is an opportunity to be part of our small and friendly Te Pae Tauhu Legal & Compliance team, with a particular focus on supporting the development and implementation of government policy and legislation relevant to the arts, culture, and heritage sectors.
This opportunity includes supporting the legislative processes relating to media policy reforms.
Korero mou - About you You will have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a small and agile team.
Your creativity, sound judgment, and analytical skills will pave the way for you in this role.
Excellent communication skills, initiative, and the ability to work to deadlines are essential.
You need to have the confidence to lead legal support to internal clients on a daily basis.
You must hold, or be eligible to hold, a current legal practising certificate.
At least five years + post admission experience as a lawyer is preferred.
However, less PQE will be considered.
Experience in providing legal advice on Te Tiriti o Waitangi / Treaty of Waitangi and working with iwi, public law, and/or in drafting and reviewing contracts would be particularly useful for this role.
Understanding of the public sector and Crown entities would be helpful.
You will have the ability and confidence to lead the provision of legal support to internal client groups and experience in some of the areas relevant to this role.
