The Senior Security Operations Engineer is responsible for ensuring the secure operation of network infrastructure, systems, and data.
This role involves designing, implementing, and maintaining robust network and security architectures and implementing proactive security measures to safeguard and respond to potential threats and vulnerabilities, with a focus on continuous improvement and advanced security practices.
This position will work within a small team and aims to optimise security tooling, minimise downtime, and provide a secure, reliable computing environment for the organisation.
It will involve a mixture of project, response, and analysis work.
Responsibilities Conduct regular vulnerability assessments to identify and address security weaknesses in the network infrastructure.
Apply appropriate patches, updates, and security fixes to mitigate potential risks.
Proactively monitor network performance, analyze logs, and investigate network incidents and outages.
Troubleshoot and resolve network-related issues promptly to minimize downtime and optimize network performance.
Lead incident response activities, including investigating and mitigating network and security incidents, conducting post-incident analysis, and implementing preventive measures to enhance network and security resilience and minimize future risks.
Stay abreast of the latest network security threats, vulnerabilities, and industry trends.
Continuously research and evaluate emerging technologies, tools, and techniques to enhance the organization's network and security posture.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including IT operations, system administrators, and software engineers.
Share knowledge and expertise with team members through documentation, training, and mentoring.
Manage and enhance security operations using Microsoft Sentinel and Defender, ensuring robust security monitoring and threat detection.
Experience & Qualifications (Must Have) Sentinel and Defender working experience including tuning.
Implementation is not required; these tools are installed; however, you need to know how to use the tools and optimise them.
Intermediate to advanced KQL experience.
Project experience with scoping, designing, and rolling out new technologies.
Comfortable with researching and proposing solutions and adopting new technology.
Comfortable with mentoring junior team members.
Ability for continuous learning and strong desire to upskill.
5+ years of IT security experience.
A degree in Computer Science or similar preferred but not required.
Strong understanding of secure network architectures.
Experience with Endpoint Protection/Endpoint Detection & Response (EPP/EDR), Security Incident & Event Monitoring (SIEM), specifically Microsoft Sentinel and Defender.
Nice to have DLP design & roll out, purview, auditing experience (ISO27001, SOC2 Type II, NIST).
