The Hauraki Gulf Marine Park is New Zealand's first marine park, covering 1.4 million hectares of ocean. It includes the Waitemata Harbour, Gulf Islands, Firth of Thames and the east coast of the Coromandel Peninsula.
The proposed Hauraki Gulf / Tikapa Moana Marine Protection Bill will give effect to new marine protection areas that aim to improve the marine health of the Gulf. It is part of the wider Revitalising the Gulf programme.
Reporting to the Operations Manager of the Auckland Marine Team, you will support the communications and engagement plan for the proposed Bill. Working effectively with stakeholders to achieve improved outcomes for conservation is key to success.
In this role you will:
Recruit, manage, and develop a high-performing team, ensuring their safety, wellbeing, and professional growth.Lead and support communications with key stakeholders, including iwi, community, and business groups.Support, plan, and deliver community outreach initiatives, including Ministerial events.Collaborate with national teams to create and update content across various platforms, including social media, web pages, and newsletters.Draft formal documents, including Official Information Act requests, briefings, and status reports.Lead the planning, phasing, and tracking of annual, quarterly, and monthly work programmes, managing budgets and identifying solutions for critical cost pressures.If you're passionate about marine conservation and working with others to achieve conservation outcomes, then this role is for you. You must have confidence and awareness to engage with people from all walks of life. You will be a community-minded, empathetic, and driven individual who can work independently as well as part of a team. Identifying and managing risks and opportunities are critical to this role.
If you have the following attributes, we are keen to hear from you:
Confident communicator with strong verbal and written skills.Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders, including iwi and community groups.Experienced in project planning, budget tracking, and risk management.Demonstrated leadership skills with experience in team management and mentoring.Understanding and connection to Te Ao Maori, tikanga, and whakapapa.Experience in event management, tourism, or hospitality (desirable).Please note, this role has a strong engagement focus and requirements for the position have been clearly defined in this advertisement.
