He angitutanga | About the role The focus of this Senior Ranger position is planning, monitoring and oversight of technical work programmes relating to: * Rowi and Haast tokoeka kiwi programmes.
* Kea, lizards, bittern, bats, threatened plants, marine and wildlife response work that the South Westland District engages in.
* Relationship holder with relevant stakeholders, partners and communities.
* Working in partnership with Iwi to protect and manage taonga species.
* Welationship with Taumaka me Popotai owners and biodiversity work on the islands.
* Island biosecurity in conjunction with the Biodiversity Threats team.
* Strategic planning for threatened species programmes and implementation of National and species recovery plan.
* Biodiversity capital works projects.
* Operational planning (monthly, annual and 4 yearly) and associated performance reporting requirements.
* Working with Zero Invasive Predators Predator Free South Westland project.
The biodiversity team oversee several other species conservation programmes that you may be asked to lead or assist with, including predator control operations.
You will be instrumental in implementing future species management work as the focus changes over time, as well as being a key member of the District Leadership Team.

If you have some of following, we are keen to hear from you: * A strong commitment to Safety and Wellbeing in the workplace.
* A natural heritage or conservation management qualification.
* Specialist experience/qualifications in threatened species management.
* Knowledge and experience with project management, budgeting and financial planning.
* The ability to work in true partnership with others across Te Papa Atawhai and external stakeholders including local whanau, hapu and iwi.
* Skilled at coaching, training and supporting staff with the acquisition of technical knowledge.
* The ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively as part of a team.
* Strong computer and data management skills.
* Good communication skills.
* A current driver's license.
Desirable * A degree in Environmental Science or equivalent.
* A current first aid certificate.
* Proven back country experience, working/travelling alone off-track in mountainous and forested terrain.
Mo te tima | About the team You will be joining a positive and enthusiastic team delivering conservation outcomes in South Westland.
The Operations team consists of 36 permanent staff spread across three locations- Fox Glacier, Franz Josef and Haast.
