Details of the offer

Want to deliver conservation outcomes with our National Biodiversity Monitoring Unit?
The salary range for this position is $60,314 to $75,603.
Permanent, full-time position based in Hokitika.
Our vision: Nature is thriving in Aotearoa Te Oranga o te Ao Turoa.
The Department of Conservation Te Papa Atawhai (DOC) serves to protect and restore nature spaces and species across Aotearoa.
Tangata whenua are inextricably linked to the whenua and te taiao, and we desire a future where whanau, hapu and iwi can thrive in their role as rangatira and kaitiaki.
This role is largely office-based and provides administration support to the local Supervisor and field teams.
The field teams conduct fieldwork for monitoring programmes across New Zealand with a focus on the Department's tiered National Biodiversity Monitoring Programme.
This support includes contacting Operations managers, iwi, landowners and managers (e.g., forestry companies) to ensure the field teams have the necessary permissions to travel to plots and stay on location.
The work also includes organising accommodation, equipment, and a range of other administrative tasks to assist the field teams and supervisor.
The position may also be required at times to act as an after-hours contact for the field teams.
There is a significant element of data quality assurance and maintaining information for the field teams and preparing the necessary background information teams need in the field.
This is a full-time, permanent position, working on average 40 hours per week.
You will be part of a national team and may have responsibilities that extend beyond the location where you reside.
If you have some of the following skills and experience, we are keen to hear from you: Great communication skills and the ability to get on with people.
Excellent planning and organisation skills, attention to detail.
Ability to respond and adapt to changing circumstances.
Computer skills with confidence in Excel and Word.
The Biodiversity Monitoring Team is a national team led by the Biodiversity Monitoring Manager, Morgan McLean, based in Dunedin, with team members located in four locations: Rotorua, Palmerston North, Hokitika, and Invercargill.
At each location, we have one or more Supervisors responsible for the coordination and management of the team and the work programme at that location.
During the field season, we employ many temporary Monitoring Rangers to support the work at each location.
The teams range in size from approximately 12 staff in Rotorua to approximately 35 staff in Hokitika.
DOC places importance on developing a culture where everyone can participate, thrive, and grow.
We're working towards being an organisation that is diverse, equitable and inclusive by default.
Apply online with a CV and cover letter that highlights your relevant skills, experience, and motivation for joining Te Papa Atawhai.
Please note, due to the high volume of applications, we are unable to accept direct or emailed applications and provide feedback to those not shortlisted.
If you require any accommodations or adjustments throughout the recruitment process, please do let us know.
The salary range for this position is $60,314 to $75,603, with the starting salary of the successful applicant being based on their relevant skills and experience.
Eligibility to work in New Zealand is mandatory; this includes holding a valid work visa that covers the whole period of employment.
Due to high volumes, we are not engaging with recruitment agencies for this role.
Applications close at 11:59 pm on Tuesday 27 August 2024.
