NHC Toka Tu Ake is an Aotearoa (NZ) Crown entity that invests in natural disaster research and education as well as providing natural disaster insurance to residential property owners. The mission of NHC Toka Tu Ake is to reduce the impact on people and property when a natural disaster occurs while administering the natural disaster fund.

As a Senior or Principal Research Advisor, you will be responsible for providing strategic guidance, leadership, and expertise in research activities within NHC Toka Tu Ake. The role will include:
Provide advice on strategic research investments and closely manage their delivery.
Manage a portfolio of projects related to NHC research theme/s.
Work with subject matter experts to develop research priorities for the portfolio and identify research opportunities.
Support researchers, subject matter experts, and communication specialists with disseminating research to those who need it.
Work with the team to identify, monitor, and evaluate potential impact of research we invest in over the short, medium, and long-term.
The role is crucial for ensuring the NHC Toka Tu Ake research portfolio is aligned with the NHC Toka Tu Ake Resilience Strategy for Natural Hazard Risk Reduction.
Your confident and engaging manner and excellent interpersonal skills will enable you to quickly build effective working relationships across all levels. You will be a credible and trusted person who is actively sought out for their advice, influence, and collaborative approach.
Ko wai koe | About You
5+ years experience in Research Management/project management in the context of hazard risk management or science institutions. The level of the role will reflect the years of relevant experience and leadership.
Postgraduate qualification in a discipline relevant to NHC Toka Tu Ake, e.g., Earth Sciences, risk management, social sciences is ideal (but not required).
Proven experience managing end-to-end research projects.
Experience in contract management.
Experience in managing contestable funding rounds.
Knowledge of the New Zealand science and research sector.
Experience with, and the ability to work with government and industry stakeholders.
Works well in a team and has the ability to take on different levels of leadership.
Ability to bridge between research problems and organisational priorities.
Familiarity with financial management systems and Microsoft 365.
