Senior Planner role based in Fairlie, South Canterbury
Permanent, full-time position

The successful candidate will play a key role in projects, advice and support other planning employees.
This role will provide growth opportunities and development tailored to suit the individual; under the supervision of a Manager renowned for being an excellent mentor. The Senior Planner will play a key role in the District Plan Review program, provide planning advice to public, consultants and other employees, and work closely alongside the Manager Planning to ensure Council's responsibilities under the RMA are met.
The core responsibilities of this Senior Planner role include:

Resource consents processing
Researching complex resource management issues, and their implementation
Planning advice to public, consultants and MDC employees
District Plan Review
Provide expert advice at hearings
Developing policies and practices

Successful candidates will have:

A relevant tertiary qualification(s) in planning/resource management, or other relevant degree with demonstratable experience
Desirably 5 years worked experience in a planning role, or proven ability and expertise
Membership of the NZ Planning Institute or eligibility to apply for full membership
An understanding and ability to work with communities to achieve outcomes
Experience mentoring and developing less experienced team members
Local Government experience is desirable
Knowledge of and respect for the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi
