He angitunga | About the role

As one of the three Works Officers in the region, you will manage a variety of construction projects, including asset replacements, such as small bridges, track upgrades and toilets and visitor safety work, such as track barriers. You will work as part of a small team to successfully deliver projects to planned scope, time, and budget.

The position will be focussed on:

managing projects: procurement, consultant management, consents, tendering, and construction contracts

maintaining project documentation, team, and governance reporting

using the Department's Project Management Framework for all project deliverables, including business case development and reporting

adhering to best practices in procurement, tender, contract, and supplier management.

This is a permanent, full-time position which can be based in our DOC office in Christchurch central or Geraldine, with some travel around the region required for the role.

As a proactive team player, you'll bring a collaborative and solution-focused approach, working well with operations teams, contractors, and Treaty partners.

If you have some of the following, we are keen to hear from you:

a qualification and/or relevant experience in construction or project / contract management

the ability to develop and maintain relationships and work as part of a high functioning team

sound level of knowledge and practice of capital budget management within the context of project delivery

an understanding of, or experience with, applying for statutory consents such as resource or building consents

a sound knowledge of contractor health and safety management

a valid full driving licence

high level of proficiency with Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, Project, and PowerPoint

strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage competing deadlines and priorities.

Desired:

knowledge of Te Papa Atawhai/Department of Conservation

understanding of and/or interest in conservation in the New Zealand / Aotearoa context

some knowledge of the Eastern South Island Region.

The salary range for this position is $68,535 to $86,423 with the starting salary of the successful applicant being based on their relevant skills and experience.

Eligibility to work in New Zealand is mandatory – this includes holding a valid work visa that covers the whole period of employment.
