Senior Payroll Officer

We are currently seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Payroll Officer to join our team at the Waimakariri District Council.
As our Senior Payroll Officer, you will be responsible for managing the end-to-end payroll process for our organisation.
You will play a critical role in ensuring accurate and timely payment to our employees while adhering to contractual obligations, relevant legislation, and company policies.
In this position, you will work closely with the HR and finance departments to maintain payroll records, process employee time and attendance data, and ensure compliance with relevant regulations.
You will also be responsible for resolving any payroll discrepancies and addressing employee inquiries related to payroll matters.
The ideal candidate for this role has a strong attention to detail, excellent mathematical and analytical skills, Excel skills, and 6-8 years of payroll processing experience in New Zealand for medium-large size organisations.
We are currently using TechnologyOne as our Payroll solution but are preparing to implement Datapay as our new Payroll system from July 2025 onwards.
The successful candidate will be involved in the implementation of the new system, including end-user testing and parallel pays.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience processing pay and ideally had exposure to system implementation.
Responsibilities: Processing the payroll for 550 employees on a fortnightly basis, ensuring accurate calculation of wages, deductions, and allowances.
Ensure compliance with legislative requirements and contract requirements.
Resolve payroll discrepancies and answer employee inquiries related to payroll.
Requirements: NZPPACertificate in Payroll Practice or NZPPAA Certificate in Payroll Management and Accreditation.
At least 6 years of experience managing the end-to-end Payroll process in a medium-large size organisation.
Strong analytical skills and the ability to identify and resolve complex payroll issues.
Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
