The core values of our organisation are based on Maori concepts Whakawhanaunga, Manaakitanga, Ako and Whakamana.A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Senior Payroll Officer to join our Finance team.Reporting to the National Payroll Manager, you are responsible for coordinating the efficient and accurate processing of payroll across the organisation. You will collaborate with payroll professionals and other stakeholders to ensure all payroll activities are completed accurately and on time.Duties of the role may include, but are not limited to:Ensure payroll functions align with legislation, organisational policies, and employment agreements, providing timely and accurate pay for Kaimahi on a fortnightly basis.Act as the main contact for payroll queries, collaborating with HR and finance to enhance payroll accuracy and seamless end-to-end processing.Support payroll data accuracy through regular checks, system updates, and compliance measures, coordinating reconciliations and timely deductions to meet obligations.Oversee employee master data updates, including onboarding, terminations, and authorised deductions, to maintain accurate records.Participate in payroll improvement projects, applying expertise in payroll legislation and compliance to support accurate calculations, variance analysis, and data entry verification.Mentor and coach team members to build payroll expertise and contribute to a supportive, high-performing team environment.This role offers a salary band ranging from $83,986.65 to $94,714.87 per annum. Placement within this band will be determined by the extent to which candidates meet or exceed the relevant qualifications and experience requirements.You are a confident and detail-focused payroll professional, skilled in handling end-to-end processes with accuracy and ease. With a strong grasp of New Zealand payroll legislation and a collaborative approach, you're quick to connect with team members, supporting seamless payroll operations. Your authentic communication style and sense of humour make you a trusted go-to for payroll queries and process improvements.In addition, you will bring the following:Tertiary qualification in payroll, HR, finance, or business.5+ years of payroll experience, including end-to-end processing.Strong communication skills (listening, verbal, written).In-depth knowledge of NZ payroll legislation: Holidays Act, Income Tax, Parental Leave, KiwiSaver, Wages Protection, and Employment Relations.Eligibility to work in New Zealand.Experience in the NZ Health Sector.Proficiency with Payroll Software.3+ years in a large, complex payroll environment.Additional qualifications in accounting, finance, or business.Familiarity with EmpLive time & attendance and ESS systems.Our team culture is very important to us.
