About the role We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Linux Engineer to join our team based in Auckland. As a Senior Linux Engineer, you will be responsible for managing and maintaining our Linux-based systems, ensuring their optimal performance, security, and scalability. You will work closely with cross-functional teams of IAAS, network and software engineers, to design, implement, and support Linux infrastructure, ensuring the availability, integrity, and reliability of the BTG cloud platform. The ideal candidate should possess extensive knowledge of Linux environments, a strong Docker and Ansible skillset, excellent troubleshooting abilities, and a strong background in systems administration and infrastructure management. Key Responsibilities: Design, deploy, configure, and maintain Linux-based systems, servers, and infrastructure components. Perform system administration tasks such as installing, configuring, and managing Linux operating systems and applications. Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement appropriate solutions to ensure high availability, reliability, and security. Develop and implement infrastructure solutions based on business requirements and industry best practices. Support and troubleshoot common (and some not so common) Linux server applications in a wide variety of environments. Automate routine tasks and processes using scripting languages and configuration management tools. Collaborate with vendors and external partners for system integrations, support, and troubleshooting. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior team members, fostering their growth and development. Stay up to date with emerging technologies, trends, and best practices in Linux system administration and infrastructure management. Maintaining documentation on a regular basis. Participate in on-call rotations and respond to system emergencies or critical incidents as required. Qualifications and Skills: Commercial experience with shell scripting and automation using configuration management tools with a strong focus on Ansible. Commercial experience with containerization platforms with a focus on Docker. Commercial experience with OpenStack is highly desirable. Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent work experience). 5 to 7+ years of experience as a Linux Engineer or similar role, with a strong background in Linux system administration and infrastructure management, preferably in commercial environments. In-depth knowledge of Linux operating systems (such as Red Hat, Ubuntu) and associated tools and utilities. Extensive knowledge in shell scripting and automation using configuration management tools with a strong focus on Ansible. Experience with virtualization technologies (e.g., OpenStack, KVM). Extensive knowledge with containerization platforms with a focus on Docker. Strong understanding of networking concepts, TCP/IP protocols, and network security. Experience with software-defined storage systems. Solid grasp of system monitoring tools and log management solutions. Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues. Experience with configuration and management of high-availability clusters. Strong communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
