This is a full time, permanent position.The Director of Proceedings is the Commissioner's independent prosecutor. The Director is required to make independent decisions on cases referred by the Commissioner and to take proceedings before the Health Practitioners Disciplinary Tribunal, the Human Rights Review Tribunal, and the courts. The Director is responsible for the efficient, effective, and economical management of proceedings activities.The role of the Senior Legal Counsel is to assist the Director of Proceedings in the prosecution of disciplinary proceedings and other litigation, as agreed with the Director, including all aspects of file management, case preparation and appearance before the Health Practitioners Disciplinary Tribunal, the Human Rights Review Tribunal and the courts.Ko nga mea ka hiahiatia e koe kia angitu te haere | What you'll need to be successful:5 years + PQEExperience in undertaking and managing litigationA New Zealand practicing certificate, or having the ability to obtain one on commencement;Ability to handle complex cases and meet deadlines;Sound judgement;A thorough approach and an eye for detail;An analytical and enquiring mind;Availability to travel within New Zealand for hearings, on occasion;An understanding of the principles of te Tiriti o Waitangi/the Treaty of Waitangi; andA commitment to the promotion and protection of the rights of consumers of health and disability services.If you're keen to see the direct impact that your contribution can have for the health and disability sector, this is your opportunity to see the positive outcomes first hand.
