He angitutanga: The opportunity
Te Kaunihera o Tamaki Makaurau/Auckland Council has an opportunity for a senior property lawyer (5 years'+) to join its Property Law team, reporting to the Associate General Counsel (Property) in Nga Ratonga Ture/Legal Services. The role is based in the Auckland City Centre with some flexibility to work from home or a Council hub.
Our Property Law team comprises 8-10 lawyers and legal executives. It is hard to imagine a workplace where you would be exposed to a more diverse range of work.
We work on all aspects of property law and you will quickly become familiar with the Reserves Act, Public Works Act, Local Government Act, Council delegations and allocations.
You could expect to work on:
Projects touching on our waterfront, regional parks, community facilities, co-management with iwi, film studios, major events, marae developments and commercial/residential developments.Providing robust advice on acquisitions, disposals, developments, licensing, easements, encumbrances, commercial & community leasing and statutory requirements.Climate response including the buy-out scheme relating to the 2023 weather events, and impacts on our parks, reserves, assets and people.You will be a senior property lawyer with 5+ years under your belt in private practice or in-house roles, with experience in a range of transactional and advisory property law mahi.
You will be a team player who enjoys variety and positively impacting our communities and places. With strong collaboration skills and the ability to prioritise workflows, you will be comfortable tailoring your well-articulated, technically robust advice to the situation, and also with presenting and explaining it to others. In-house and local authority experience is welcomed, but not required.
We are specifically looking for:
At least 5 years' transactional and advisory property law expertise, gained from experience working in New Zealand corporates, public sector organisations, or law firms. (some of our senior legal counsel have 20 years+)A tertiary qualification in law and a current practising certificate.Auckland Council is the largest local authority in the Southern Hemisphere and is New Zealand's main urban "growth" council.
