Te Kaunihera o Tamaki Makaurau/Auckland Council has a great opportunity for a permanent full-time Senior Lawyer to join the Commercial legal team of Nga Ratonga Ture/Legal Services.
The team supports all commercial, construction, corporate, development and transactional work of Council and key subsidiaries, ranging from business-as-usual procurement and contract negotiation to significant infrastructure, urban renewal and large project work. We also support council's capital raising, funding and finance activities, corporate governance and compliance. The commercial work is diverse, including large contracts (waste, maintenance and operating contracts), joint ventures, and ICT projects and services.
We drive value and results for Aucklanders through good contract management, efficient use of assets, and collaborating on delivery with Government and private sector partners.
You don't need local government experience but you do need a keen interest in commercial and transactional work, even if your current experience is limited. We have flexibility to shape the role depending on experience and expertise. You will be able to work closely with the other lawyers in Legal Services, and with elected members and a wide range of business units and managers at all levels of the organisation.
Legal Services is an in-house team of 50+ lawyers in five teams (Commercial, Property, Civil Litigation, Regulatory & Enforcement and Public Law). We empower Auckland Council to do the right thing, the right way, for an Auckland we can all be proud of.
We have a fantastic, inclusive working environment, which is collaborative, fun, safe and results-driven. There is lots of support, salaries are competitive, and flexible working is standard (many of our team regularly work from home 1-2 days a week).
