This includes general updates, critical warnings and advisories, as well as bespoke reports vital to the safe ongoing operations of New Zealand industries and organisations. ABOUT THE ROLE The Senior Infrastructure & Cloud Engineer plays a crucial role in assisting the Infrastructure and Cloud Manager in designing, modernising, and overseeing our client's worldwide network and cloud infrastructure. This involves ensuring its efficiency, security, and adherence to best practices. Additionally, the Senior Infrastructure & Cloud Engineer will be expected to collaborate closely with the organisations broader team to provide support for cloud infrastructure and observation networks, which encompass automated weather stations, satellites, and radar infrastructure. DAY TO DAY RESPONSIBILITIES Take the lead on server, network, security, and cloud engineering initiatives, overseeing external contractors as necessary. Advocate for the transition to a cloud-based or software-defined 'everything as a service' infrastructure. Develop, supervise, and execute business continuity strategies and initiatives, encompassing backup and redundancy measures. Ensure best performance of infrastructure-dependent applications, including Office 365, Active Directory, and patching systems. On-call will be required for this position – 1 in every 4 weeks & remunerated very attractively. SKILLS & EXPERIENCE The ideal candidate should possess previous experience in roles related to Infrastructure, Cloud, and/or Network management within a mission-critical, around-the-clock commercial setting. Familiarity with ITIL or equivalent incident and problem management best practices. Demonstrated capability to innovate and think strategically, challenging established norms. Strong Proficiency in Linux (Windows exp would be advantageous but not critical), Server, SD WAN, Network, and Cloud Technologies. Strong in various AWS Cloud technologies, ideally some experience in Microsoft Azure (or a keen interest to learn). Experience using IaC tools (Terraform preferably) and scripting languages such as Powershell and Bash. Familiar with GitHub Suite. DESIRABLE Familiarity with 'integration as a service' and/or 'Database ETL as a Service' technologies. Proficiency in applications development, electronics design, and systems integration within the IT domain. Energetic and motivated, with a commitment to enhancing the work environment. Having prior experience in transitioning an organisation's infrastructure towards a genuine 'cloud-first' architecture, particularly on Amazon AWS or Microsoft Azure platforms, will be a significant advantage.
