About the opportunityThis is a 12 month fixed term position covering parental leave that has the potential to be extended. As a critical member of our Finance Team of four, you will report to and act as an advisor to the CFO and be responsible for delivering core accounting functions and the management of our group's financial reporting and tax compliance. Having implemented an integrated finance and property system in 2023 you'll also play a key part in supporting the implementation of our final two modules to improve efficiencies and streamline our systems and processes.Day to day you'll:Be responsible for financial and management accounting for our group of companiesMonitor internal controls and ensure robustness of systemsLead our annual budgeting processDesign, produce and deliver timely financial information as requiredSupport the implementation of purchase orders into our accounts payable processesWork with the finance team to ensure all financial inputs are accurate, consistent and timelyImplement systems and process improvements into our finance proceduresBe our go-to accounting expert to support the finance teamAbout YouYou have a passion for systems and processes, you enjoy implementing best practice finance procedures and understand the importance of accurate and meaningful financial data. You thrive in busy roles and have resilience to flex and adapt to changing needs and priorities. You are a collaborative team player that is willing to pitch in to support other areas of the business when required. Ideally, you have a keen interest in the property sector with broad finance experience and expertise and enjoy being part of a high performing team.In addition, you'll have the following qualities and experience:CA qualified with relevant New Zealand corporate experienceMinimum of 5 years of financial accounting experienceStrong technical financial accounting skillsAn accounting systems expert ideally with Yardi experience or an ability to learn new systems quicklyAbility to organise and analyse financial data to provide insights to managementTechnically savvyAdvanced problem-solving skills to identify issues, recommend solutions and implement process improvementsAttention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality workExcellent communication and ability to work cross functionallyAbility to create an environment for innovation by proactively seeking system improvementsHave a focus on delivering and adding value to stakeholdersMust have the right to live and work in New ZealandAbout usThe Wellington Company (TWC) was established in 1990 and has been a major player in the redevelopment of Wellington city's urban environments and historic places.
