Our Communities, Learning, and Work team advises the Minister of Finance on the Education, Tertiary, Workplace Relations and Safety, Immigration and population portfolios. In addition, the team also provides advice on public sector pay and pay equity issues, their fiscal implications and management. In this role we're looking for an enthusiastic and talented professional to join us in an important role for managing Government finances and achieving outcomes. This role will be responsible for key deliverables for the public sector pay and pay equity system, including: Working with other Treasury teams and agencies on collective bargaining and pay equity claims; Advising the Minister of Finance on public sector pay and pay equity issues; Developing long-term strategy in conjunction with central agencies; Assisting the wider team on other priority areas, such as Budget advice and Treasury policy positions. This important work takes a special kind of person with a passion for making a difference and getting things done. You will have a strong policy, or policy adjacent, background in the public sector and excellent relationship management skills. It would be useful for you to have experience or deep understanding of employment relations. This could be through policy in the area or practical exposure to department pay setting or collective negotiations (including pay equity). Our ideal candidate will also have: An understanding and appreciation of Treasury's public finance and economic advisor roles; Ability to manage a varied workload with competing priorities; Ability to work independently and contribute to team priorities; Strong written and verbal skills with the ability to translate analysis into outputs which are easily interpreted by a variety of technical and non-technical stakeholders; Well-developed policy, numerical literacy, critical thinking skills; A forward-looking focus, being able to identify issues before they are immediately urgent.
