You will be an integral part of our team to provide support, advice, and guidance to our regulatory operations and wider Waka Kotahi teams that results in effective, efficient and fit for purpose operational implementation of regulatory and legislative settings.This is an interesting and diverse role with plenty of variation. Your initial focus will be working alongside our Safety Camera System programme to finalise a suite of new operational policies that will support NZTA to successfully operate safety cameras. You will also help to ensure that these are successfully transitioned and embedded into BAU by confirming ownership and appropriate renewal and maintenance schedules. As a Senior Advisor, you will also contribute to the establishment of a risk-based and intelligence-led prioritised work programme that aligns to Waka Kotahi's strategies and direction.Ko koe'tenei | About youWe manage a large, challenging, and diverse workload and are looking for a Senior Advisor with a few years of operational policy, Ministerial, or similar, advisory experience ready to get involved. In addition, you will bring:Extensive knowledge of the machinery of government and an understanding of the Official Information and Privacy ActsExcellent written and oral communication skills - experience in writing in plain EnglishStrong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining consistently high standardsAbility to work under pressure without compromising quality, including managing demanding / high volume workloads and competing prioritiesSound judgement and ability to manage risk appropriatelySound relationship management and negotiation skillsAbility to function independently and as part of a teamYou will demonstrate knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an understanding of Te Ao Maori and promote tikanga and Te Reo Maori. You will also have knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an appreciation of te Tiriti o Waitangi (the Treaty of Waitangi) as it applies in the public sector.Ko wai matou | About usAs the lead regulator for land transport our purpose is to ensure that the system is safe, efficient, effective and operates in the public interest. Safety is a top priority for Waka Kotahi and we, as Te Ropu Waeture (the Regulatory Services group), aim to improve safety and reduce the risk of harm by being a firm and fair real-world regulator applying principles of good practice grounded in Te Ao Maori - Whakapono (Integrity), Manaakitanga (Caring for people), Whanaungatanga (Relationships) and Kotahitanga (Unity).The Regulatory System Design group supports the regulator's role by ensuring clear policy, procedures, guidelines, and regulatory strategy are in place to deliver our regulatory functions.The Regulatory Implementation team is the link between the creation and amendment of legislation and the regulatory operational teams and regulated parties. Guided by risk, intelligence and evidence, the Regulatory Implementation team purpose is to take a systems view and work collaboratively and in partnership with our operational teams, industry and their Regulatory Standards and Implementation colleagues to facilitate the implementation and operationalisation of new and existing legislative settings.
