Senior Advisor - New Zealand - New Zealand Government Reporting to the Principal Advisor De-escalation & Negotiation, the Senior Advisor De-escalation and Negotiation is responsible for the operational effectiveness of Corrections De-escalation and Negotiation functions.
The Senior Advisor De-escalation and Negotiation position is pivotal to staff safety and ensuring that the Department has the capabilities required to meet current and emerging threats posed by any events or activities able to disrupt prison-based operations.
Positions are available in Auckland, Central, Lower North and Southern Region Description Mo te tunga | About the role Reporting to the Principal Advisor De-escalation & Negotiation, the Senior Advisor De-escalation and Negotiation is responsible for the operational effectiveness of Corrections De-escalation and Negotiation functions.
The Senior Advisor De-escalation and Negotiation position is pivotal to staff safety and ensuring that the Department has the capabilities required to meet current and emerging threats posed by any events or activities able to disrupt prison-based operations.
Positions are available in Auckland, Central, Lower North and Southern Region Key accountabilities include : Responsible for the development and implementation of prison negotiation (PNT) manuals to reflect current and future practice.
Supports the Principal Adviser Deescalation and Negotiation, and wider Tactical Operations and Emergency Management Group to deliver better outcomes for frontline staff by incorporating negotiation specific communication methodology into the tactical options core delivery, ensuring all new officers have a baseline level of training in negotiation tactics and techniques.
Ensuring the development and implementation of best practice frameworks for Negotiation and Deescalation capabilities.
Provides advice and guidance to Controllers on use and deployments of PNT and ensure the PNT response is appropriate to the situation.
Responsible for the development of a PNT information database and liaises with regions regarding negotiation planning and reporting.
Work closely with the Tactical Advisers to ensure consistency of practice/procedures across incidents and escalate any concerns to Principal Adviser Deescalation and Negotiation as required Develops collaborative working relationships with all internal and external stakeholders including within prison sites with staff and acts as a deescalation expert Works closely with Learning & Development/ People & Capability to ensure that training is uptodate and effective for all staff Mou | About you The successful applicants will demonstrate their experience and desire to contribute to the improvement and ongoing development of de-escalation and negotiation capability across the prison network.

Demonstrates significant knowledge and experience of Prison Negotiation techniques and methodologies.
A good understanding of the Department's emergency response framework and how negotiation supports an incident response strategy.
Extensive experience/knowledge in a custodial or similar environment Ability to evaluate risk management systems and procedures to identify issues and trends that may require improvement Excellent relationship skills with a proven track record of developing strong relationships.
Ability to plan, develop and deliver training in an organisational context.
High standard of written and verbal skills.
Full and Current Drivers Licence.
Extensive travel will be required.
The role requires the post holder to be on call for Emergency and Incident response.
Utu a-tau | Salary The salary range is $98,215 - $138,656, the mid-point which indicates full competence in the role is $115,546.
Appointment and remuneration will reflect skills and experience relevant to the role.
