As our Climate Scientist, you will be instrumental in shaping how the Hawke's Bay region understands and responds to climate challenges, working within our Environmental Science section to deliver crucial insights that inform regional planning and decision-making.In this role, you will apply your expertise to help us understand climate influences across our entire environmental system - from air quality to water resources, from land use to marine environments. You will work with our scientific research teams to analyse climate patterns, including the effects of large-scale climate oscillations on our region, and help translate complex climate science into practical solutions for our community.Your work will enable us to track the region's greenhouse gas emissions and will directly contribute to our climate change mitigation and adaptation strategies, supporting HBRC's commitment to environmental stewardship. You will engage with stakeholders across the community, from government agencies to iwi groups, helping to build understanding and drive positive environmental outcomes. You are naturally curious, always eager to learn, and ready to adapt as our climate challenges evolve.To be successful in this role, you will need:A postgraduate qualification in climatology, meteorology, or environmental science with a focus on climate studiesStrong programming skills in R or similar languages for statistical computing and graphicsExperience in analysing spatial and time-series climate dataProven expertise in greenhouse gas accounting using the Global Protocol for Community-Scale InventoriesExceptional ability to translate complex scientific concepts for non-technical audiencesStrong project management skills to handle multiple concurrent projectsIn-depth understanding of climate change science and its regional implicationsExperience with extreme weather event analysis and local observationsProficiency in GIS and data visualization toolsValid driver's licenseThe salary range for this role is between $ and will depend on the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.
