Port Otago Group's business comprises a regional container terminal, bulk port activities, cruise and property investment and development. We service South Canterbury, Otago, and Southland, working with customers to streamline their supply chains. Our culture is hands-on, safety focused and encourages continuous improvement.
We are looking for an experienced, down to earth and driven Safety & Training Advisor to join our Safety team based in Port Chalmers, Dunedin.
About the role:
Reporting directly through to our Head of Safety, our Safety & Training Advisor will be a champion who can provide both safety and training support to our internal and external customers, ensuring a priority focus on safe work practices and striving to keep our people safe.

About you
You'll be joining a supportive and collaborative team who thrive working in a fast-paced and often reactive environment. You'll be the type of person who loves getting stuck in to solve problems in a practical way, and who is a master of juggling multiple priorities. But above all else you'll have a positive attitude, resilience in stacks and plenty of initiative.
You will have the following Key Attributes:
A true passion for Health & Safety – not afraid to speak up, lead by example and act immediately if something is wrong!
Proven safety focus and experience in training development/delivery within an operational role, including experience with designing training materials
New Zealand Certificate in Workplace Health and Safety Practice (Level 4) is desirable
Trainer & Assessor Qualifications
Group facilitation skills
Exposure and understanding of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's)
Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to quickly form strong working relationships.
A self-starter who brings a proactive and flexible approach to their work.
Strong organisation skills with ability to multi-task and to also plan ahead and forecast
Well-developed oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
High level of computer proficiency and be able to demonstrate competency in standard office applications e.g., MS Excel and preparing reports
While the port industry has traditionally attracted men, times are changing. We strongly encourage women to apply and investigate this opportunity.
What's in it for you?
In return, you can look forward to working for a successful company which prides itself on continually striving to improve performance; this enables our people to make a contribution that makes a difference and for us to reward our people for their contributions.
