With strong development in our district, and a supportive, diverse working environment, in an organisation which values its community and its people, there's never been a better time to make the move to Whangarei District Council.About the role:We are looking for someone to join our small Transport Strategy & Planning team, focusing on road safety and traffic engineering for our local roads in the Whangarei roading network.Core responsibilities include:Delivering on safety outcomes and providing traffic engineering advice and expertise to internal and external stakeholders.Investigating and assessing all serious and fatal crashes on local roads within the Whangarei district and provide reports and recommendations on targeted improvements.Ensuring all transport projects have appropriate Safety Audits or exemptions.Reviewing developments to ensure proposals meet the current and future needs of the community, ensuring compliance to relative standards.Providing expert advice and guidance to council capital delivery teams to ensure projects are appropriately understanding and managing road safety risks.Developing parking strategy, parking implementation plan and implement system changes to ensure appropriate turnover and mode shift.Supporting climate change and adaptation strategy outcomes through transportation strategies and programmes.Developing and updating road safety and mode shift strategies, policies and procedures.Monitoring road safety outcomes, particularly with respect to effectiveness of interventions and how to improve the system of road safety and potentially additional targeted interventions.Customer liaison via requests regarding Road safety opportunities for improvement.About YouIf you are an engineer who is compelled to make a difference, is solution focused and who can collaborate effectively with others, then this role is for you!Along with your passion for road safety, you will also bring:Degree in Civil Engineering.5 - 10 years relevant experience in transportation engineering, and a familiarity with AUSTROADs Safe Systems approach.
