As a Resource Management Officer – Incident Response, you will be part of a team that champions the community's quality of life through:
Investigating environmental incidents with integrity
Engaging with our community
Fostering relationships and building connections
Achieving positive outcomes that support the sustainable use of our natural resources
This role will largely consist of field work, which is predominantly following up on notifications provided via our 24 hour pollution hotline and referrals from stakeholder agencies. However, the role also involves some office based work including information gathering, providing advice and education, and assisting with investigations.
You will need excellent communication skills to connect with the diverse range of people we support across Southland. Although part of a team, you will often be working alone and will need a demonstrated ability to remain calm under pressure. You will be comfortable working in unknown situations dealing with complex issues while exercising discretion in non-compliance situations to obtain the best environmental outcomes, retain organisational goals and values, and maintain consistency with legislation, while maintaining professional relationships and your own safety and wellbeing.
A proven ability to effectively deal with conflict is required, as is a good understanding of relevant environmental issues that affect the Southland region.
Successful applicants will be police-vetted and will be required to participate in an on-call roster for after hour pollution notifications.
In return, Environment Southland can offer you a dynamic and friendly working environment, access to a wide range of technology, training and support, and the chance to make a real difference to Southland's natural environment.
