OTEL – Onehunga Transport Engineering Limited is well known for its high quality custom truck builds.We also offer repairs and maintenance on trucks and trailers, general engineering and we are the NZ and Pacific Agents for the USA made Altec Aerial devices.We have an exciting opportunity in our busy engineering workshop and need your skills to assist us in running a smooth repairs & service division, liaising with engineers on the workshop floor, suppliers and customers.Job tasks and responsibilitiesThis role will be responsible for overseeing the Repairs & Service jobs across our two (2) engineering branches of the business. (both sites are in Auckland)A focus on efficiency, project management and assisting the Managing Director and Production Manager, alongside the Operations and Workshop Manager in a busy truck-building workshop.Key Success Indicators:Lead the repairs division for fast turnaround of truck body repairs, insurance jobs and some mechanical servicing.Assist the Production Manager & Managing Director with warranty work and root cause analysis, including communication with 3rd party technical experts.Ensure there is enough stock on hand to repair the most common damage.Lead the repairs team (employing and developing staff) to ensure skills and knowledge are strengthened in the methodology for repairs, panel work etc.Work closely with our CAD design office to design and order replacement CNC and laser parts if required.Ideally you will be able to weld and fabricate with steel yourself so that you can train and coach others (and fix the odd job yourself).Must be physically fit enough to get underneath and get up on top of trucks to ascertain damage and potential fix.Some experience with LEAN manufacturing principles would be advantageous.This role will have direct customer and 3rd party service provider communications, so inter-personal skills, and excellent written and verbal communication skills will be essential.This role will be required to quote and invoice for repair & service jobs and manage the labour time and costs associated with each quoted job, so experience with these would be an advantage.A working knowledge of the heavy vehicle fabrication industry with broad technical knowledge in the areas of engineering, machine operation, and fabrication methods is important.Must be computer literate and proficient in MS Excel, MS Word, and Outlook as a minimum.Must have good communication skills with the ability to build relationships with staff, peers and other stakeholders of the business.Should have excellent planning and organisational skills with a strong independent work ethic.Should also possess sound judgement, be value driven, and drive continuous innovation & improvement.Must work well in a team.Must communicate clearly, and have good time management skills.Must have the ability to work unsupervised.Must have exceptional mechanical and fabrication engineering knowledge & experience.Must be safety conscious and demonstrate clear understanding of health/safety rules and regulations.Skills and experiencePrevious experience with the following responsibilities would be an advantage:Heavy Vehicle fabrication or engineering disciplines.Hydraulics (service & repair).Auto Electrical (service & repair).People leadership.LEAN, Six Sigma, and continuous Improvement techniques.Staff performance management.Project planning and analysis.
