About the role

Regulatory Services – Customer and Community is a dedicated area of Hamilton City Council charged with safeguarding environmental health, contaminated land and building matters.

We are looking for a forward-thinking leader to continue the journey towards service excellence and best practice. With a dedicated team of subject matter experts engaged across the wider business unit, your focus will be to:

Create a culture of connectivity and collaboration across functional areas of the organisation.

Develop opportunities for innovation and continuous improvement, streamlining processes for a more efficient customer experience.

Foster and maintain critical relationships across a wide range of stakeholder groups, including local government agencies, statutory bodies and community.

Lead and support projects on behalf of the Unit Director, including responding to public enquiries.

Maintain oversight and responsibility for all monitoring, audit and compliance requirements, meeting statutory and organisational KPIs.

Skills and experience

Our ideal candidate will have:

An authentic approach to leading, motivating and inspiring teams towards a shared vision.

An understanding of the economic, legislative landscape relating to regulatory environments.

A relevant tertiary qualification and experience at a leadership level, ideally within a regulatory or building environment.

An understanding of and commitment to Te Tiriti O Waitangi.

Exceptional relationships and stakeholder engagement.

Strategic capability and a future focus on innovation.

The insights and credibility to provide cover for the Unit Director when required.

Strong business acumen and a genuine curiosity to contribute to the overall organisational culture.
