We are looking for an experienced Registered Nurse to join our small team of healthcare professionals.
Job Purpose
Registered Nurses are employed to provide safe, efficient client care using their professional knowledge and skills in accordance with:
North Health Limited policies and procedures.
Registered Nurse Scope of Practice.
Nursing Practice Standards.
The Registered Nurse as part of the role, will provide appropriate delegation and direction to Enrolled Nurses and the Healthcare Assistants to work effectively as a multi-disciplinary team. He/she will practice in accordance with the partnership inherent in the Treaty of Waitangi and the principle of equity in health. The approach to care will be person centred and holistic – this will be reflected in the care planning process focusing on the choices and needs of the individual resident. The Registered Nurse will provide professional nursing care to the residents, optimising their health, level of function and wellbeing and as well provide support for the family/whanau.
Core responsibilities
Applies company vision and values to all areas of service delivery.
Undertakes a comprehensive and accurate assessment of residents using suitable assessment tools.
Contributes to care planning, involving the resident and/or their representative, demonstrating through the care plan an understanding of residents' rights to make informed decisions.
Ensures all residents provided with appropriate information to make informed decisions relating to treatment and care reflects client preferences in all areas of service delivery.
Provides an innovative and flexible approach to complex care planning.
Monitors the residents care interventions for their effectiveness and assists with planning to minimise any variance.
Interprets data and passes on appropriately as evidenced by evaluation and documentation in the multi-disciplinary notes – the care plan is updated accordingly six monthly or as needs change.
Practices nursing in a professional manner demonstrating accountability for own scope of practice in accordance with the Nursing Council Code of Conduct.
Maintains own competency requirements.
Complies with all company policies and procedures, systems, structures, and processes.
Is focused on quality and risk management in all areas of service delivery.
Follows and actively promotes all Health & Safety instructions.
Recognises and records adverse events as per policy.
Informs the kitchen of any special dietary requirements, including cultural requirement.
Liaises with the medical practitioners effectively.
Informs the Clinical Manager/Facility Manager of any clinical care that could have a cost implication.
Utilises all resources and products in a cost-effective way – particularly continence products, gloves and medical supplies.
Organises subordinate staff in a safe and sustainable manner to meet the immediate care requirements.
Identifies and communicates methods of achieving efficiency.
Interpersonal Skills/Relationships
Communicates and interacts with others internally and externally in a professional manner. Maintains a positive, cheerful attitude about work and about life.
Practices active listening by demonstrating the intention to hear and understand another person's point of view.
Promotes an environment that encourages others to work together.
Maintains a professional and positive relationship with Health NZ and other external stakeholders.
Leadership and management
Provides leadership and direction to subordinate staff.
Ensures residents cares are completed by staff as per the resident care plans.
Productively manages and utilizes time.
Brings to the role and to the team a mindset of excellence and improvement.
Completes delegated care planning within the required timeframes and to the required standard.
Contributes to the facilities quality improvement systems and projects.
Acts as a role model to care staff.
Is a team player and contributes to the development of a strong team culture within the care facility.
Communicates any actual or potential risks to the Facility Manager on duty in a timely manner.
Controlled demeanor
A friendly and outgoing disposition, able to relate to people from a wide variety of backgrounds.
Tactful and sensitive, particularly when discussing care requirements and advance directives [in relation to end of life questions] with the frail elderly and/or their relatives.
Treats residents with respect and dignity.
Has an even temperament and is able to work under pressure.
Is reliable and patient with a sense of humour.
Highly motivated in helping others and has empathy and understanding of the needs of the frail and vulnerable older adult or adults with a disability.
Skills, experience and certification
Current Annual Practicing Certificate as required by the New Zealand Nursing Council.
A minimum of 3 years postgraduate aged care experience.
A fast thinker able to utilize critical thinking skills with sound common sense.
Effective communicator, especially when dealing with difficult residents /relatives and/or visitors.
Customer service focus in all areas of care service delivery.
A current 1st Aid Certificate.
A proactive approach to nursing interventions.
Strong planning and organisational skills.
Good knowledge of Health and Disability Service Standard.
Health Practitioners Competence Assurance Act 2003
You are required to maintain your current competency-based practicing certificate.
You must notify the Facility Manager of any changes to scope or conditions of practice (determined by regulatory authority).
You must complete the requirements of any competency programme.
You must notify the employer of any concerns relating to the risk of harm to the public of another health practitioner below the required standard of competence.
You are required to know the provisions of the HPCAA as the governing legislation.

We have an experience-based pay scale starting at $40 per hour.
