The key purpose of this role is to lead the delivery of funded heritage protection initiatives. This is a new role in DOC, so the ideal candidate is someone able to work collaboratively with Senior Rangers Heritage and Visitors in the Eastern South Island, the Senior Heritage Advisor and Supervisor to develop a strategic work program that they can then deliver.
The position will be focussed on:
Carrying out work at place aimed at maintaining or improving the condition of 'places of heritage work'. This could include:
Undertaking hands-on heritage maintenance work.
Supporting baseline recording of heritage assets.
Undertaking audits and inventory & data management.
Providing support to the Senior Rangers Heritage and Visitors and SHA with the scoping, planning, and delivery of heritage projects. This could include:
Leading the delivery of funded heritage projects including contractor management, working with consultants, tracking project deliverables & budgets.
Scoping potential future heritage projects, developing business cases & applying for funding.
Working with community groups that want to undertake heritage work.
Help develop & deliver heritage training initiatives.

If you have some of the following, we are keen to hear from you:
Knowledge and/or practical skills in heritage management practices & techniques.
Ability to lead the development of detailed strategic work plans.
Project and contractor management experience.
Creative problem-solving skills.
Strong written and oral communication abilities.
Proven expertise in relationship management and stakeholder influence, including working with Maori and iwi communities.
Desirable:
Background in grant writing.
Relevant tertiary qualification.
