He angitutanga | About the role
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced and highly motivated individual to lead biodiversity projects across multiple islands in the Wellington region. As the Ranger Project Lead for Biodiversity (Islands), you will play a crucial role in managing complex programs, delivering infrastructure projects, and coordinating species translocations while working collaboratively with mana whenua and supporting community groups.
The position will be focussed on:

Understanding and addressing the unique biodiversity needs of our island ecosystems.
Delivering projects within budgetary and logistical constraints.
Working with a dedicated team across multiple locations, predominately Mana Island and Kapiti Island.
Working closely with mana whenua, island rangers, contractors and community groups.
Leading and managing work programmes.
Coordinating people and making decisions in challenging island environments.
Project management and delivery of complex biodiversity programs.
Infrastructure development and maintenance on islands.
Species translocation and conservation initiatives.
Identifying and developing opportunities for island biodiversity enhancement.

If you have some of following, we are keen to hear from you:

Demonstrated experience in project management and contract management
Proven ability to deliver complex programs and infrastructure projects
Experience in species translocations and biodiversity conservation
Excellent communication skills and ability to create collaborative work projects
Strong stakeholder management skills, particularly with neighbouring or private residents and community groups
Demonstrable experience working collaboratively with mana whenua
Comfort in creating and managing elements of work programmes
Full New Zealand Driver's Licence
Ability to work away from home on islands occasionally
Experience in coordinating and managing people and projects

Desirable qualities:

Experience working on islands, with an understanding of the unique working environment and challenges
Background in species conservation or ecology
People management skills, including the ability to lead, organize, and make decisions
Familiarity with biosecurity practices
