Korero mo te Turanga - About the Role
The Team Leader Biosecurity Intelligence is part of the Biosecurity Intelligence, Systems and Response directorate. Your team will work together with the wider Intelligence & Information Group to support the development and dissemination of strategic and operational intelligence products for decision makers across the breadth of the MPI's work: biosecurity, import pathways, the food system, trade, animal welfare and fisheries.
As the Team Leader, you will be:
Leading and managing staff to ensure team engagement, provide clear direction and expectations, performance management and opportunities for learning and development.
Collaborating to design and implement intelligence methodologies and processes that deliver timely biosecurity threat intelligence.
Engaging and building relationships across MPI, wider government, industry and academia to support the ongoing production of high-quality biosecurity intelligence.

To be successful in this role, you will need:
Experience managing analytical staff
Experience in developing and managing positive relationships with internal and external partners and stakeholders
Experience working in multi-disciplinary and inter-agency environments with a proven track record of contributing to high quality outcomes for decision makers
Awareness of the Treaty of Waitangi and its principles, and a growing understanding of its relevance to New Zealand and to MPI

The Intelligence and Information Group collects global reporting, science, and data to produce actionable strategic and operational intelligence for busy decision makers across MPI and the wider national security and hazard risk systems.
The Biosecurity Intelligence team come from a variety of backgrounds and work collaboratively to fuse their collective understanding of the sciences, international relations, and economics with intelligence frameworks and methodologies, to deliver robust intelligence assessments. You will lead the team of 7 Intelligence Analysts based in Wellington and Christchurch.

Higher level Security Clearance
most preferably a NZ citizen who has resided continuously in NZ for at least the last fifteen (15) years, OR
is a citizen of, and/or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last fifteen (15) years : either Australia, Canada, NZ, UK or the USA; and has a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the NZSIS towards a recommendation of suitability for a security clearance at a higher level.
