A rare opportunity to join an experienced and fun team of five Rangers working in the wider Wellington District. This role involves maintaining and improving recreation facilities and contributing to the biodiversity work at front country sites and back country sites.
Your day-to-day work will be field based but will include some office work to support the field work and team. The role involves regular work which requires overnight trips on islands and backcountry locations on average 10 days per month or as required to fulfill the busy maintenance program. Some of these trips are planned and some are at short notice. When working on any overnight trips extra allowances are paid.

The ability to work away from home on an ongoing and regular basis is a requirement for this role.A reasonable level of physical fitness to undertake field work which includes working in the back country, carrying in equipment and materials to sites.Drive, initiative and resourceful to independently research and resolve issues.Flexibility and adaptability to cope with changing priorities at short notice.Self-motivated person, who can operate well in a team environment.Skilled collaborator, team-player, with emotional intelligence.Excellent planning, organisational, coordinating, computing and administration skills.The successful candidate will have a willingness to be trained to be able to carry out the following tasks, or have experience in some or all of these tasks:
Chainsaw unit standards.Small machine use including weed eaters, lawnmowers.DIY, basic carpentry and building skills.Grow safe Certification.First Aid Certification.Tramping or backcountry experience/skills.Four-wheel drive unit standards.Light Utility Vehicle (LUV) unit standards.Weed control and pest plant identification.Animal pest control and monitoring.Basic Firefighting.Full New Zealand driver licence.Even if you don't tick all the boxes but believe your skills and experience closely align, then we still encourage you to apply.

The salary range for this position is $58,816 to $66,578 with the starting salary of the successful applicant being based on their relevant skills and experience.
Eligibility to work in New Zealand is mandatory – this includes holding a valid work visa that covers the whole period of employment.
