He angitutanga | About the role MOURI MOTU, MOURI TANGATA, MOURI ORA This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the protection and revitalisation of the Wellington Harbour Islands, Matiu/Somes, Mokopuna and Makaro/Ward.
They are taonga to Taranaki Whanui ki Te Upoko o Te Ika and you will be working under a co-managed Board to support the delivery of the Kaitiaki Plan.
Te Papa Atawhai (DOC) is responsible for the day-to-day operations on the islands.
The position will be focussed on: * Ensuring that the values and direction of the Wellington Harbour Islands Kaitiaki Plan are reflected in the operations on the islands.
* Working closely with the iwi to support the revitalization of Taranaki Whanui tikanga, reo and cultural practices on the islands.
* Managing and maintain island infrastructure, including tracks, buildings, water, electrical, sewage systems, vehicles, boats and machinery.
* Managing biodiversity programs, including planting, weed control, flora and fauna monitoring, pest animal control and all aspects of island biosecurity (quarantine, surveillance and pest contingency).
* Managing projects, contractors, seasonal, casual and volunteer staff.
* Coordinating with conservation groups, corporates and volunteers.
Nga pukenga me nga wheako | Skills and experience If you have some of following, we are keen to hear from you: * An understanding of the Treaty of Waitangi principles.
* Capability in any or all of the following: Te reo maori me ona tikanga, te ao maori perspectives and knowledge systems, kaitiakitanga and matauranga associated with the taiao space.
* Excellent planning, administration and organisational skills.
* Excellent at building and sustaining collaborative relationships.
* Self-motivated, flexible approach, self-aware and highly motivated.
* Proficient in the use of a wide variety of computer software programmes; e.g.
Outlook, Word, Excel.
* A reasonable level of fitness.
Desirable: * Experience in working collaboratively with whanau, hapu and iwi, community, government agencies and business groups and comfortable and professional in working with a wide variety of people.
* Practical skills in facilities maintenance tasks – painting, carpentry, DIY etc.
* A current NZ Class 1 driver license (Manual).
* First Aid Certificate.
* Grow safe Accreditation.
* Tractor driving and operating qualifications for a tractor less than 1000 kg.
* Basic Chainsaw unit standards.
* Safe Working at Heights.
* Approved handlers license for gas and fuels.
* Coordinated Incident Management System (CIMS) Level 2.
* GPS and GIS computer skills.
* Fire fighter unit standards.
