About the role: How would you like to be a part of the team that halts the impact of invasive species that threaten Aotearoa's freshwater ecosystems?
As our Ranger, Freshwater Pests, and Migratory Fish Species, you will lead the Department's freshwater biosecurity and migratory fish work for the Eastern North Island Region.
You will be responsible for planning, delivering, and reporting on the freshwater pest and migratory fish (4 species) work programmes and effectively managing your workflows in order of priority.
The position will be focused on: Contributing to Freshwater Biosecurity and Freshwater Migratory Fish programmes that honour our obligations including under legislation.Understanding local issues and concerns around freshwater biosecurity, with a focus on preventing further spread.Partnering with key external partners including iwi, hapu and whanau, landowners, contractors, volunteer groups and other members of the community as well as internal stakeholders in the department.Developing solutions that allow native species and freshwater places to thrive from mountains to sea. Travel is an essential part of this role and is required around the district to complete the mahi.Skills and experience: If you have some of the following, we are keen to hear from you:
Experience in freshwater conservation, particularly in freshwater species management, biosecurity, habitat restoration, and/or resource management.Experience planning, delivering and reporting operational projects and effectively managing multiple pieces of work.Proven ability to successfully deliver projects in collaboration with Tangata Whenua and a range of partners.A work style that focuses on driving and maintaining momentum.Excellent interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills.Ability to work with ambiguity.Demonstrated skill in working with experts to understand technical advice and matauranga Maori.Willingness to travel and undertake night-time fish surveys as needed.Current full NZ drivers license.A relevant tertiary qualification is desirable.Prior experience of partnering with Iwi, Hapu, and Whanau.About the team: The Regional Operations Group is responsible for delivering conservation work on the ground through our biodiversity, recreation/historic, community engagement, and visitor centre teams.
You will be one of 13 Freshwater Rangers located across the country working on Freshwater Biosecurity and Freshwater Migratory Fish.
