Dodson requires a new addition to the team at its engineering and distribution facility on Auckland's North Shore.
The Dodson automotive parts brand is known worldwide, with over 95% of our parts exported, and is part of the wider Dodson Group of companies.
The role of the Purchasing Manager is comprehensively responsible for all aspects of stock for Dodson's automotive products manufacturing and distribution business, including purchasing, supplier relationships, stock management, logistics and inbound freight.
Reporting to the Commercial Manager, it is key for this role to work closely with the Engineering and Sales teams, our two subsidiary plants, and our third party suppliers to ensure the successful and timely delivery of inputs required, communicating clearly on the availability of stock, ownership of potential issues and ensuring agreed suitable solutions, all while helping the company to meet the defined financial, quality and delivery targets of the business.
Prior experience purchasing metal components from CNC suppliers and/or fabrication shops is critical.
Learning our products will be critical in this role, a natural interest in motorsport and mechanical assemblies is thus highly beneficial (but not required).
Responsibilities include: Leads a small team of direct reports, some within a matrix management environment Establishes and maintains positive relationships with suppliers, including both small local suppliers and larger overseas entities Proactively ensures the timely supply of critical and high value stock, balancing with appropriate inventory value / cash flow objectives Ensures quality control standards are followed and upheld Owns the review of operational invoices, ensures they are accurate and submitted to accounts for payment Identifies new supply sources, ensures they meet the quality and engineering specifications required by the business Follows standard operating procedures of the business, and assesses / updates them where prudent / required Ability and willingness to step in and work at any level of the purchasing team to ensure the job is done Be a part of the management working team liaising with consultants on roll-out of a new ERP system The successful candidate must have the following experience / skills: Excellent problem solving skills Excellent verbal and communication skills, as well as keen listening and conflict resolution abilities 5+ years' experience in purchasing / sourcing / supplier relationship roles Able to interpret and discuss engineering drawings with vendors Understands the nuances of small/medium business, and is able to work effectively with employees and vendors of varying skill levels and cultures to achieve positive outcomes Prior experience purchasing metal components from CNC suppliers and/or fabrication shops is critical An interest in the automotive industry is beneficial but not required The role is full-time, Monday to Friday (42.5 hrs/week), and must be performed on-site.
