About the Role
We have an opportunity available for a Public Health Medicine Specialist to join our experienced and supportive Northern region team. The primary purpose of this role is to provide professional leadership alongside other PHMSs across the National Public Health Service (NPHS) Northern region. The role actively contributes to public health gain for the four districts within the Northern region and will include programme and/or portfolio or local leadership.
You would undertake the statutory duties and responsibilities of a designated Medical Officer of Health or work towards designation within six months of appointment.

About You
You understand the importance of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and are skilled in applying its principles effectively in your role. You build and maintain positive relationships at all levels, enhancing the quality and contributions of individuals and teams to achieve the organisation's vision and goals. Driven and accountable, you are aware of your impact on others and are committed to continuously improving your leadership practice.
Skills and Experience
A medical degree (MBChB or recognised equivalent), as well as a Masters' in Public Health (MPH) with a current Annual Practicing Certificate
Vocational registration in public health medicine
Be eligible to be designated as a Medical Officer of Health
The ability to work collaboratively and respectfully within a team and with a range of diverse stakeholders
Current New Zealand drivers' licence
The ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with people at all levels within the public and private sectors, related industry and community interest groups, and the wider national and international communities
The ability to maximise the quality and contributions of individuals and teams to achieve the organisation's vision, purpose, and goals
Competency with te ao Maori, tikanga, and te reo Maori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth
